LETHBRIDGE, AB – A couple of University of Lethbridge rugby stars have been recognized for their efforts on and off the pitch.

Canada West has unveiled the 2022 All-Star roster and major award winners for the season.

Graduating captain of the Pronghorns, Keegan Brantner, was named to the Canada West All-Star team for the third time in her U of L career.

In a media release, Pronghorn Athletics noted that Brantner, who hails from Taber, has been a hometown hero since her start with the team, and was “an incredible inspiration to young teammates.”

One of Brantner’s teammates, Karlee Durfey, was the recipient of the Student-Athlete Community Service Award for her work throughout Southern Alberta.

Durfey has created her own non-profit organization for children battling cancer. She organized a charity rugby game that helped raise funds for the cause. Durfey also volunteers at food banks and with SAGE Clan, giving out lunches, water, clothes, and naloxone to those in need. Additionally, she is a Big Sister with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and she is a rugby coach at Raymond High School.

The rugby 15’s season is now complete, so Pronghorn Athletics coaches Graeme Moffat and his team will shift their focus to the Canada West Sevens Series, which will start in the New Year.

The full list of award winners and All-Star roster members is available on the Canada West website.
