New transit vans hitting Lethbridge roads

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Seven new Lethbridge Transit vans are hitting the road.

The vans will service Ride-on-Demand areas and some Access-a-Ride users, and the City of Lethbridge said the vans are sleeker, more comfortable and cost-effective.

Mario Galeana, Transit Asset Manager with the City of Lethbridge said, “These new vehicles are cheaper to purchase, maintain and cost less to run due to the increased fuel efficiency.”

Galeana added, “The last time we purchased Access-a-Ride vehicles, which was pre-pandemic, the cost was in the range of $200,000. These new vans were purchased for approximately half of that amount and offer roughly a 50 per cent reduction in maintenance costs too.”

The city said in a news release that the new, smaller vans have better insulation against noise and temperatures, and are more maneuverable than the traditional Access-a-Ride vehicles.

All seven new vehicles are expected to be operational in July. Information on Ride-on-Demand and Access-a-Ride routes can be found at the City of Lethbridge website.
