Fall leaf collection program underway in Lethbridge

Oct 3, 2023 | 1:58 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has kicked off its fall leaf collection program for 2023.

Residents can book their pick-up until Friday, November 10, by calling 311 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The City has put out the following guidelines:

  • Leaves must be put in paper yard waste bags and placed in the area where your waste collection cart is normally collected.
  • The leaves need to be placed out 24 hours ahead of your pick-up date and 1.5 metres away from waste collection carts.
  • Residents whose waste collection is in the front are asked to place leaf bags where their property meets the sidewalk.
  • Only leaves in paper yard waste bags will be accepted for the collection program because all leaves and bags will be composted together.

Yard waste bags are available for purchase at retail stores throughout Lethbridge. No paper bag should exceed 10 kilograms (25 lb), although there is no limit to the number of bags that may be set out for collection.

Alternatively, residents can also mulch their leaves, back-yard compost them or take them to any of the City’s yard waste recycling sites, which will be open until Sunday, November 19.

City of Lethbridge waste and environment collection manager James Nicholls would like to remind residents that each household must call to have their bags picked up.

Residents can also put leaves in their green cart. They will be collected weekly until the beginning of November, after which, collection will change to bi-weekly.

For more information, contact 311.
