Police seeking video evidence in alleged assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police are asking for help investigating a case in which a man reportedly hit vehicles while walking through traffic in Lethbridge.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says the alleged incident happened on Mayor Magrath Drive on April 11, 2024. At around 7:24 p.m., officers responded to multiple calls reporting that a man was walking in and out of traffic while striking at vehicles with a weapon.

Police attended, located and arrested the suspect.

Scott Anthony Angel Varhaug, a 34-year-old from Lethbridge, is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, causing a disturbance, mischief under $5,000, and failure to comply with a probation order.

The LPS is asking anyone who may have cellphone or dashcam footage of the alleged incident in the Mayor Magrath Drive/23 Street N. and 9 Avenue S. area between 6:55 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. on April 11th to come forward. The LPS can be contacted at 403-328-4444 and the reference file is 24006461.
