LETHBRIDGE, AB – The family of a young boy who passed away years ago has honoured his memory by helping out the YMCA of Lethbridge.

Charles McIntyre, 10, died after being struck by a vehicle in April 2020. Following his death, Lethbridge resident Chris DiPasquale created the #SlowYourRoll initiative, encouraging motorists to slow down and be more aware of their surroundings.

In 2023, the Charles McIntyre Fund was created with an initial goal of $10,000. The fund eventually grew to $30,000 in its first year thanks to funds raised through the sale of #SlowYourRoll campaign merchandise.

Officials say the $1,000 interest earned from the fund in 2023 was recently donated to the YMCA to provide fee assistance for five youth in the community to take part in YMCA summer day camps, which are said to be something Charles loved to partake in.

“We are deeply grateful to [the] Charles McIntyre Fund for the generous donation and the commitment demonstrated by the family, Chris and the individuals and businesses who have made contributions to the fund,” says Jennifer Petracek-Kolb, YMCA of Lethbridge CEO.

This support will go a long way to empower youth in our community, and it is such a powerful reminder of the incredible person Charles was. Through their kindness, everyone involved is helping us fulfill our mission of building healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”

The Charles McIntyre Fund is managed by the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta.
