More school lockdowns in Lethbridge Friday

Oct 9, 2026 | 2:51 PM

Lethbridge Police are looking into, what appears to be, the latest in a series of threats against or near schools in the city.

In the latest incident Friday morning, police were made aware of an online threat, and while classes went ahead, police ‘beefed up’ their presence.

In a statement, LPS says they received multiple reports of a threatening message that had been sent to students by text via social media.

Out of an abundance of caution, Lethbridge Collegiate and other schools in the neighbourhood were placed in lockdown.

An investigation is underway to determine if the threat is legimate, but also who might behind the latest incident.

Police have been called out three times this week with LCI and schools nearby going into a lockdown procedure, in each case.

One charge, against a 16-year-old boy, was laid in one of the incidents earlier in the week.
