LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Cor Van Raay YMCA in the ATB Centre is receiving a significant donation.

Cavendish Farms President Robert Irving handed over the cheque for $100,000 last Wednesday.

“We believe in supporting the communities where we do business. The YMCA of Lethbridge is [a] natural fit for our organization because it brings recreation, health, and wellness to so many families in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta.”

In recognition of the donation, the company will be the naming sponsor for the new Cavendish Farms Community Galleria.

Director of Marketing and Communications at the YMCA Ross Jacobs says they will be putting the money towards programming.

“Either programs that we haven’t been able to bring to the Y yet, whether that’s new sports programming, new art programming, new programming for youth or families. What this allows us to do is to look at options that other Y’s are doing across the country that we haven’t had a chance to do yet, or introduce and bring in some very local and hyper-focused regional programming together.”

Construction on the facility is completely finished. The last step was the childcare facility that opened up about a month ago.

Jacobs says, while it is great to have a building, this donation will help to add heart to it and ensure families can continue to enjoy it for years to come.
