LETHBRIDGE – Goals were at a premium at the Nicholas Sheran Arena for the Pronghorns women’s hockey team on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, and both times the home team came out on the wrong end.

Across the plains in Saskatoon, goals weren’t as hard to come by, the problem is they all wound up in the Pronghorns net.

Following a scoreless 60 minutes of regulation on Friday night, it took the Saskatchewan Huskies only 16-seconds in overtime for forward Abby Shirley to score the winning goal, beating the Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 in Canada West women’s hockey action.

Pronghorn goaltender Alicia Anderson was strong in goal, as usual, making 38 saves in the loss.

Coming off a close 1-0-win Friday night, the Huskies completed the weekend sweep in another tightly contested game, beating the Pronghorns 2-1.

Freshman Kenzie Lausberg tallied the Pronghorns lone goal, while for the second straight night Alicia Anderson turned aside 38 shots in the loss.

The Pronghorns have now dropped five games in a row to fall to 1-4-0-1 on the season, sitting in 6th place in the Canada West conference.

The Pronghorns will face the Calgary Dinos next weekend in a home-and-home series, beginning Friday night in Calgary before returning home on Saturday.

In Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan men’s hockey team shutout the Lethbridge Pronghorns by a score of 5-0 on Friday night.

Huskies goaltender Taran Kozun turned aside only 13 shots in the game for his first shutout of the season.

In the other crease, Garrett Hughson stood strong and did all he could to keep his team in the hockey game, stopping 49 of the 54 shots the Huskies put on net.

Saturday night was no better for the Pronghorns, as they were shutout for a second straight night, this time a 4-0 win by the Huskies.

Huskies goaltender Taran Kozun recorded his second shutout in as many nights, turning away all 12 shots he faced in the game.

Taz Burman got the start in place of Hughson for the back to back and stopped 58 of the 62 shots of the shots he faced.

The losses end an unsuccessful road swing for Lethbridge, who fall to 2-4-0 on the year, last place in the Canada West conference.

Up next for the Pronghorns is a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos, beginning Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
