$6.79 Million in federal infrastructure money for Lethbridge College

FORT MCMURRAY –  The federal government has announced $6.79 Million in infrastructure funding for the College.   The Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) money will to be used for two projects.

 $6.44 million from the funding will be used for development of a 7,000 square foot innovation space in the second phase of the college’s new trades and technologies facility.    

According to College President, Paula Burns, the facility will be the largest of its kind south of Calgary, which will enable students, faculty and industry professionals do applied research in a wide range of disciplines.

The new trades and technologies facility will welcome its first students this August and the innovation space, which will include a wet lab, a social science observation lab and a collaboration space, will be ready for use by spring 2018.

Also, $350,000 has been allocated for a $700,000 power upgrade to the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (ACE). The upgrade will accommodate installation of new equipment to test industrial designs and support a new agriculture research and development greenhouse. 

  The funding announcement was made Thursday morning in Fort McMurray, where the federal government outlined $19.6 million in funding for 12 projects at four Alberta post-secondary institutions. The Government of Alberta contributed $2.2 million towards these projects.
