LETHBRIDGE – There were a lot of generous bidders at the 25th annual Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation Christmas Tree Gala on Wednesday (Nov 22).

This year’s auction of decorated trees and other items raised $230,000, which broke the previous record set last year by an astounding $80,000.

The annual event was again sponsored by Stringam LLP, with the auction conducted by Balog Auction Services. During the days leading up to the gala, more than 4,000 people visited the Festival, held in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge at ENMAX Centre.

A total of 25 trees were decorated and sponsored by local businesses, individuals and community groups, with themes running from Rustic Glam to Snow Day, #Emoji Magic and one featuring Darth Vader. The U-of-L’s Secret Garden, included $2,500 worth of books, which were donated to Gilbert Paterson School by the purchaser.

Many of the purchased trees were then donated to Lethbridge community organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Club, Lethbridge Family Services and St. Michael’s Health Centre

Executive Director of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, Jason VandenHoek, said it was an amazing evening.
“Once again we are blown away by the support shown to us by the individuals and business in Lethbridge and surrounding area – we really can’t thank them enough.”

All the money raised from the auction is directed to the Regional hospital, with this year’s funds destined to support ongoing renovation and redevelopment of the Mental Health area at the Hospital.
