Two Hurricanes headed to NHL Rookie Camps

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two Lethbridge Hurricanes will be attending NHL rookie camps this month.

20-year-old defenseman Alex Cotton was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings 132nd overall in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Langley, B.C. product has suited up in 146 regular season games with Lethbridge, totalling 104 points (29 goals, 75 assists), along with 94 penalty minutes. He led all WHL blue liners in scoring during the 2019-2020 season when he finished with 20 goals and 67 points in 63 games. Last season, Cotton recorded 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists) in 24 games.

Detroit’s camp will take place from September 16 to September 20, with their annual Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The tournament will include rookie rosters from the Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old forward Ty Nash was originally drafted by Lethbridge in 2018, 183rd overall in the ninth round of the WHL Prospects Draft. He went undrafted in the NHL Entry Draft this year, his first year of eligibility. The Scottsdale, Arizona skater totalled 13 points (four goals, nine assists), along with 15 penalty minutes in 24 games during the shortened 2020-2021 WHL season. In two campaigns with Lethbridge, he collected 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists), along with 33 penalty minutes in 83 games.

He’ll attend the Carolina Hurricanes’ prospects showcase, taking place from September 18 to 21 in Florida. The showcase will feature prospect teams for the Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes open their 2021 ENMAX Training Camp at the ENMAX Centre September 9, with the annual Red vs. White intra-squad game scheduled for Sunday, September 12 at 2:00 p.m. The ‘Canes start the ENMAX Pre-Season on Friday, September 17 at home against Medicine Hat.
