LETHBRIDGE, AB – Conservative Incumbent Rachael Harder is set to have another term as Lethbridge’s MP.

Canada’s most expensive election in its history has left the country with another projected liberal minority.

The 44th federal election, at an estimated cost of $611-million — or about $108 million more than in 2019, produced no significant change in government.

The extra cost for an election that many Canadians said they didn’t want, came from a larger population and COVID restrictions and will likely produce much more fiery reactions in Parliament when it resumes.

While the Conservatives picked up a few more seats in the Maritimes, tory blue is the predominant colour across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Western B.C.

Lethbridge M-P Rachel Harder easily held onto her riding….and found most people are upset with Liberal corruption and spending.

At the time of publication, Harder secured an estimated 56 per cent of votes in the city, although those results are still unofficial and more ballots need to be counted.

“My collegues and I will make sure that corruption is brought to light because there is plenty of it and Canadians deserve to know that and know Trudeau is spending a ton of money and he needs to be held accountable in regards to the dollars that are rolling out the door, if that’s the job that Canadians would like us to play then we’re happy to play that role.”

Harder didn’t end here comments there and noted here experiences while door knocking.

“In the 36-day campaign, my team and I knocked on over 23,000 doors so we definitely had a lot of opportunity to talk with the elector in Lethbridge. A couple of the things that we heard over and over again was definitely out-of-control spending and very little accountability plus very little to show for the spending that’s rolled out the door and so that’s a big area of concern of Lethbridge.”

“Certainly another concern that I heard again, had to do with accountability and ethics – certainly seeing Prime Minister Trudeau function with a lack of ethical conduct and the people of Lethbridge wanting him held accountable for those things. I mean we’re talking about a prime minister who was convicted not just once but twice by the ethics commissioner and in Canada’s history there’s not a single prime minister that’s been convicted even once! So the fact that he’s been convicted twice is huge and that came up on the doorstep over and over again.”

It will be several hours yet, if not days, before the complete tally of votes is counted across the country, due to mail-in ballots. However, the leaders of the Green and PPC parties did not win their seats.

Elsewhere in Southern Alberta, the region’s other Conservative MP’s are projected to be re-elected as well. That includes Glen Motz of Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner, Martin Shields of Bow River, and John Barlow from Foothills.

We hope to have comments from the other MP-elects shortly.
