LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes ended their losing streak in a big way on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The Hurricanes came into the match against the Moose Jaw Warriors on a seven game losing streak, which dropped them to a record below .500 on the season.

Lethbridge wasted no time getting on the board, as Leo Braillard scored his 10th goal just 1:15 into the opening frame on a one-timer. Sean Tschigerl was credited with the assist on the goal. The Warriors tied the game just over a minute later at the 2:37 mark as Jagger Firkus scored his 42nd goal of the season.

Tristen Doyle scored at the 8:38 mark to begin his excellent night to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead, which would hold up as the final score of the period.

In the second, the Hurricanes once again came out of the gate firing, with Doyle knocking in a rebound for his fourth of the season just 29 seconds into the period. Miguel Marques and Brayden Edwards assisted on the goal.

Shortly after, on a Hurricanes power play, Tschigerl and Logan Wormald broke in on an odd-man rush, which ended with Wormald scoring on a one-timer from Tschigerl to make it 4-1. The goal was Wormald’s 15th of the season.

Lethbridge got into some penalty trouble later in the frame, with Landen Ward getting a minor for goaltender interference, while Will Sharpe and Ethan Hughes each got fighting majors.

The Warriors scored two goals off of two penalties by the Hurricanes to make it a one goal contest. However, the Hurricanes would regain some insurance when Miguel Marques connected on a cross-crease pass from Edwards to make it 5-3.

In the third period, Leo Braillard joined Tristan Doyle by wiring home a wrister from the slot for his 11th goal of the season. Doyle added his third point of the game with the primary assist, while Tschigerl also had this third point on the secondary assist.

Harrison Meneghin stopped 31 shots in the win, his 23rd of the season. Doyle was named the first star of the game for his efforts, while Braillard was the second star. Jagger Firkus, who also potted two goals, was given third star.

With the win, the Hurricanes snapped their streak and improved to a record of 25-25-5 on the season. They sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, and fifth in the Central Division.

The Hurricanes will look to keep momentum going on Friday, February 23 when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings at the ENMAX Centre at 7:00 p.m.
