LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are winding down their 2023-24 season this week, and are gearing up to make a playoff run.

Among the many fans who have come to watch the Hurricanes this season through their highs and lows was Pattison Media‘s own Nevin Sereda, who spent the season as the public address (PA) announcer for the Western Hockey League (WHL) team.

Sereda says his history with the club began as a fan, growing up in the Lethbridge area.

“I looked at these guys like they were stars of the NHL. It was just great hockey, and it was always something I wanted to be involved in.”

After getting started with the Hurricanes, Sereda moved into the position of in-game host for multiple seasons. At the beginning of the 2023-24 season, he switched roles to become the full-time PA announcer.

Sereda adds, “It’s been a nice change. It’s been really cool to see the team from different angles as a fan, and now as an employee of the team and see how things have changed.”

Nevin Sereda speaks on the excitement of being the PA announcer for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Sereda says when announcing a goal, powerplay, or some other event during a game, he gets a lot of satisfaction hearing the crowd at the ENMAX Centre respond positively. He has also begun recording his calls and posting them on social media.

“It makes me smile, makes me feel better that I get to be the guy to say ‘hey, this is who scored for us, let’s hear how loud you can be’.”

This season has been a mixed bag for the Hurricanes. The team has gone through hot stretches where they started off the season stong, along with cold spurts, including a seven-game losing streak in February. They have two games left on their regular season schedule, both against their rival Medicine Hat Tigers.

He says despite his prediction for the Hurricanes securing a lower playoff seed coming true, the team looks confident heading into the postseason, and he believes the confidence and talent can push them past some tough opponents.

The Hurricanes play their final home game of the regular season on Friday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.
