LETHBRIDGE, AB – The group of candidates vying to lead the Alberta NDP will be debating various topics Thursday night.

An NDP leadership debate will be on from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Yates Memorial Theatre.

The candidates participating are Naheed Nenshi, Kathleen Ganley, Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, Sarah Hoffman, and Gil McGowan.

The NDP says residents unable to attend in-person can watch the event via livestream at the party’s YouTube channel.

The Thursday night event marks the party’s first official debate of its leadership race.

“We’re kicking off the series of debates in Lethbridge because the region is critical to the party’s path to victory in the next election,” says executive director Garett Spelliscy.

“This debate is an opportunity for the candidates to showcase their skills and make their case to voters outside Edmonton and Calgary, where the party holds the majority of seats.”

“NDP members across the province are keen to see these candidates in action and will be looking to see who they think can lead us to government in 2027,” Spelliscy adds.

“The UCP has failed Lethbridge and southern Alberta residents in so many ways. Voters here are looking to the Alberta NDP to lead.”

In January, Rachel Notley announced she would be stepping down as the party’s leader once a new leader is chosen.
