Police investigating after “high intensity” laser pointed at plane

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says a co-pilot was temporarily blinded this week.

At approximately 3:15 am on Tuesday, June 23, a King Air 200 plane getting close to trying to land at the Lethbridge Airport when it was hit with a high-intensity green laser three times.

β€œThe laser caused a temporary loss of vision to the co-pilot, but did not impact the pilot who was looking in the opposite direction.”

No one was injured and the plane was able to land safely.

It is an offence under the Aeronautics Act to do anything that would endanger the safety and security of an aircraft in flight.

At the time, the plane was approximately 5,000 feet in the air.

Transport Canada has been notified.
