Sep 26, 2023 | 11:34 AM

COALDALE, AB – Coaldale emergency crews were kept busy Monday night.

On September 25, 2023, at around 6 p.m., Coaldale and District Emergency Services (CDES) responded to a call about a tractor semi that caught fire on Highway 512.

Fire Chief Clayton Rutberg explained that the fire had already been extinguished by passersby when emergency services arrived on the scene.

The firefighters put out some hot spots and conducted a fire investigation, which was inconclusive, and remains ongoing. They remained on scene for a couple hours after the fire was extinguished to direct traffic, and waited for TNT Towing and Salvage to remove the tractor from the highway.

Rutberg said the tractor was destroyed, and no injuries were reported.

ASSISTANCE FOR COALHURST

Later in the evening at around 7:20 p.m., CDES was called to assist Coalhurst Volunteer Fire Department to extinguish a large barn fire, along with Nobleford and District Emergency Services, and Picture Butte Emergency Services.

No injuries were reported and officials said the fire was extinguished shortly after midnight.
