Galt Museum Educator and long-time Lethbridge resident Belinda Crowson to run for City Council

LETHBRIDGE – She’s written several books on Lethbridge’s history, and volunteered with a number of local organizations. Now, Belinda Crowson says the time is right for her to run for a spot on City Council.
“For years now, I have been telling students and people that, we see these issues and history gives us this context and these are the things that we’re dealing with, and somebody’s got to go out and fix these things. You can’t always say ‘somebody’ should do it. Lots of times you have to be that somebody. And so, I thought long and hard, talked to family, friends and others and decided, you know what? This is the right time for me.”
Crowson says she knows the community, its people, stories and issues. She has worked for and volunteered for organizations like the Lethbridge Historical Society, Heart of Our City Committee, and YWCA International Women’s Day Committee. She is also a member of the University of Lethbridge Alumni Society.
She believes that there are some great things happening in the city, but admits there could also be some improvement.
“In some ways we need to stay the course, and in other ways we need new ideas. I find, for example with recycling. We’ve spent so much time and effort on recycling and we tend to forget there’s ‘three Rs’ [reduce, reuse, recycle] and we have to do something about reduction and re-use as well. So we have to make sure that we don’t get lost in the weeds of one issue, when we have to look at the bigger picture.”
Crowson adds that all decisions made by council should take into consideration the environment, the people and future generations.
