Iwaskiw seeking fourth council term; proud of accomplishments

LETHBRIDGE – Liz Iwaskiw says she doesn’t make promises, and doesn’t make decisions based on what will get her elected.

The longtime Lethbridge resident is seeking a fourth term on City Council. Iwaskiw, a professional mediator with a political science degree, told Lethbridge News Now her background has made her a good listener.

She also said she reads all the materials and tries to make decisions based on what’s best for the community.

“When a really angry citizen phones me on a Sunday night and says, why did you change your mind about recycling, I can spend 20 minutes on the phone with that person and explain to them exactly what happened and why I changed my mind,” she said, “and at the end of it they’ll go, ah, I didn’t know that.”

When asked what she’d like to see through to completion if reelected, she said she’s excited about the new Legacy Park in the north side. Looking back, she takes pride in her involvement in the creation of Cheers 4 Lethbridge, the selection of Rob Davis as police chief, and the new capital improvement program.

“We, I think, spent our money really wisely,” she said. “We managed to get a lot of things accomplished and in the books for the city of Lethbridge.”

Voters go to the polls Oct. 16.
