Province announces online form submission tool for seniors

EDMONTON — The provincial government has announced a new online tool that will make it easier for seniors to receive financial assistance.

Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing, along with Grant Hunter, Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction, announced a seniors financial assistance online tool, which will allow seniors to scan and upload documents, such as receipts, forms and banking information to help receive support. Previously, seniors had to drop off the documents in person, mail them or fax them.

“It’s our job to make sure seniors can easily access the supports they need,” said Pon in a news release. “Accepting documents for seniors financial assistance programs online is long overdue and I am pleased to be making these programs more accessible.”

The new tool can also be accessed by organizations which serve seniors. In the past, these organizations have helped seniors submit their documents through fax.

“We’re very excited about this improvement – it’s been a long time coming,” said Lynn Smid, director of family and community support services, Town of St. Paul. “We’re happy to see this reduction of red tape in our sector. The ability to submit documents in an electronic format will dramatically impact senior wait times for reimbursement and decrease the time and efforts of staff submitting claims on their behalf.”
