Lethbridge “dream home” up for grabs in 2020 STARS Lottery

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A home worth close to one million dollars is just one of several prizes you can win in the STARS Lottery.

STARS Chief Operating Officer Mike Lammachia says it is their largest annual fundraiser, comprising approximately one-third of their total budget.

The house, located at 104 Canyon Ridge Blvd West in the Paradise Canyon area, is the third one to be constructed by Van Arbor Homes.

Van Lowen, Co-Owner of Van Arbor Homes, says they try to go above and beyond each year to create something that can truly feel like a “dream home”.

“This year, it’s a prairie-style home with a real nod to Asian influence in architecture as well as minimalism.”

Including the fully finished basement, the house is 3,004 square feet.

It features two kitchen islands, a hidden pantry in the kitchen, a “three-seasons room” that functions as an indoor sunroom, a double shower in the master bathroom, and a home theatre with large couches in the basement, among other amenities.

Were the home to sell for full market value with all of the furnishings attached, Van Lowen says it would go for around $922,000.

It is one of several prizes up for grabs this year. The other grand prizes include dream homes in Calgary and Edmonton, $1,000,000 and $100,000 cash prizes, a 50/50 draw that currently is at $2.7-million, as well as an assortment of vehicles, vacations, and others.

Lethbridge is the most frequently-visited community in Alberta for STARS.

Their air ambulances carried more than 1,400 patients in 2019, stopping in Lethbridge on average once per week.

One of their Very Important Patients (VIP), Clayton Wayne Orr, spoke about how STARS saved his life.

He was working on his farm near Fort Macleod last spring when he started showing signs of a heart attack.

His wife took him to the local hospital and STARS then took him to a facility in Calgary.

“In my case, I crashed three times on the air ambulance going up to Calgary, and instead of two hours, it took 40 minutes. With the expertise and the speed, my life was saved because of the air ambulance.”

Were he to be taken in a grounded vehicular ambulance, Orr said he definitely would not be here today.

He also mentioned how appreciative he was that one of the paramedics even took the time to phone his wife to provide regular updates to her.
