Lethbridge College announces digital “all-day celebration” in lieu of conventional Convocation

LETHBRIDGE, AB – While students graduating from Lethbridge College this year will not have an in-person ceremony to attend, the school wants to do its part to recognize them.

Convocation was originally set to take place this Friday at the Enmax Centre, but due to mass gathering restrictions in light of COVID-19, the college was forced to come up with an alternative plan.

They will be holding an all-day celebration on their website as well as their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

Graduating students will also receive a “special Convocation package” in May that will include a save-the-date card to attend the 2021 Convocation, their parchment, a Convocation program, a congratulations card, and a special alumni pin.

“Convocation is one of our campus’s most important days, and we know how disappointing it is for our students who are not able to cross the stage on Friday,” says President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “But we want these students who have worked so hard to know that they are not forgotten. We are incredibly proud of their successes and they deserve to be celebrated.”

Students are told to expect “a series of congratulations and surprises”.

“They should also keep an eye out throughout the week for opportunities to get a special custom-designed digital keepsake,” reads a media release from Lethbridge College.

“We know that crossing the stage in front of the friends, family and faculty who have supported their journeys is a very meaningful milestone for many students,” says Registrar Marko Hilgersom. “We want to ensure that our graduates still have that opportunity as soon as it is safe to do so, and we look forward to welcoming them back to celebrate next year.”

Last week, the University of Lethbridge made a similar announcement. More details here.
