Forecast promising for Whoop-Up Days

Aug 22, 2017 | 10:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE — Doug Kryzanowski is keeping his fingers crossed that the weather forecast holds true.

“We’re pretty lucky if it goes as scheduled,” the marketing manager for Exhibition Park said Tuesday, Aug. 22, just hours before the start of Whoop-Up Days. Environment Canada is predicting sun and highs in the 20s and 30s for every day of the five-day exhibition.

“We’d even take 25s across the board. That’s great fair weather for everybody,” Kryzanowski added. Weather during the 2016 fair was cool and damp at times.

Whoop-Up Days opens at 1 p.m. each day through Saturday, Aug. 26, except for the first day on Tuesday when the gates swing open at noon, following the parade.

“I counted last night, just in the show guide, that we’ve got about 44 different activities over the week, and about 22 of them are new,” Kryzanowski said.

Whoop-Up Days is also a city-wide festival, with community events happening across Lethbridge, including barbecues, pancake breakfasts, and live performances.
