415 new COVID cases in Alberta, 30 in South Zone

EDMONTON, AB. Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

415 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 130,030. Of those, 4,887 cases are active while 123,338 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 30 people tested positive including 14 in Lethbridge and nine in Cardston County.

Active infections remained relatively flat for both Lethbridge and the South Zone.

Since yesterday’s update, another seven Albertans died from COVID including three in the Edmonton Zone and two each in the South and North Zones. The virus to date has claimed the lives of 1,805 people in the province.

Both deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Cardston County. LNN has reached out to AHS to learn more.

Provincially, 362 patients are currently hospitalized including 55 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 10,275 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,331,372 tests conducted on 1,797,352 different people.

155,532 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of February 17.

AHS has confirmed that 239 cases of COVID-19 variants have been confirmed in the province to date. None are in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per provincial health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 52,966 cases, 1,287 active
    • 116 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 933 deaths (three new)
  • Calgary Zone – 49,886 cases, 1,734 active
    • 130 in hospital, 25 in ICU
    • 558 deaths
  • North Zone – 11,079 cases, 799 active
    • 51 in hospital, zero in ICU
    • 129 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 9,714 cases, 729 active
    • 30 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 101 deaths
  • South Zone – 6,280 cases, 333 active
    • 35 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 84 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, zero active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,970 cases (14 new), 208 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 678 cases (four new), 55 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 676 cases (three new), 63 active, 15 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 615 cases (seven new), 90 active, two deaths
  • Cardston County – 557 cases (nine new), 56 active, 10 deaths (two new)
  • Medicine Hat – 543 cases, 16 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 533 cases (two new), 15 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 335 cases (one new), three active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 217 cases (five new), 27 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 161 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 158 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 95 cases, two active, four deaths
