Two Youths Sentenced in Armed Robbery Case

Jan 20, 2016 | 4:22 PM

LETHBRIDGE: The two 14-year old boys who admitted to the robbery of a west side convenience store last year, won’t do any time behind bars.

February 19, 2015, around 7:40-PM, the two youths entered the store wearing masks, pointed a firearm at the lone clerk and demanded cash. When the victim asked if they were serious, one youth stabbed him near the shoulder while the other punched him several times. The victim suffered numerous cuts to his hands while struggling with his attackers, before managing to get control of the knife, prompting the two youths to flee the scene.

The victim was taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.

Lethbridge Regional Police located and arrested one of the youths right away, and following an investigation the second was taken into custody the next day. It was also discovered that the firearm was in fact a pellet gun.

The judge stated that because of their age, conduct since the attack and the fact that they are both strong students in school, he would not impose jail time. Instead he gave them 18-months of probation, 75-hours of community service and they will have to pay the $385 for the ambulance that transported the victim to hospital.
