LETHBRIDGE – The Judo Alberta Club had a medal winning performance in Edinburgh, Scotland over the Easter weekend.

The team of U18 and U21 athletes won six medals in total at the Sportif International Judo Competition. Over 800 athletes from 20 countries were hosted at the event.

Lethbridge’s Hana Varsanyi managed to walk away with gold in the 63kg category.

“She had to come back in her first match against a very physical girl from Sweden; after this match she was in full control for the rest of the day scoring with some fantastic throws!” noted Alberta coach, Ewan Beaton.

Varsanyi bested her BC club mate, Lavanna Lass, in the final.

Beaton added that competitions at this level give athletes the confidence to perform in bigger events like the European and World Cups.
