LETHBRIDGE – Whether you’re a food fan, a music fan, a midway fan, or just like the carnies, the 2016 edition of Whoop-Up Days is sure to offer something for everyone.

From August 23 – 27, Exhibition Park will come alive with 20 new activities and considerable changes to the the longtime rodeo.

Doug Kryzanowski, Exhibition Park’s Marketing Manager, said after monitoring the rodeo they decided to make a major change and focus on an entertainment component.

“Every day during Whoop-Up Days we’re always thinking of next year,” Kryzanowski said.

There will be a new Can-Am Pro Challenge running from the Thursday to Saturday called “Bucking & Barrels,” which will feature four events: bull riding, bareback, saddle bronc and ladies barrel racing.

Each division will have eight pros, with four Canadians versus four Americans, for a total of 32 performers.

For music, an all-Canadian concert lineup at the Gas King Stage will be offered to please a variety of genres.

Country music will kick off Tuesday August 23 with Trevor Panczak opening for Jason Blaine.

On Wednesday August 24, Calgary’s four-piece rock band Ten Minute Detour will open for Ontario rock group The Standstills.

Thursday night Southern Alberta’s Zojo Black will open for legendary Kim Mitchell, known for hits like “Patio Lanterns” and “Go for a Soda.”

Fair goers wishing to gravitate to higher decibels are in luck on the Friday when Lethbridge’s heavy metal Tyrants of Chaos open for radio-hit rockstar group Monster Truck.

Closing out the entertainment, Pioneer Park will change directions with a “Roots & Blues Festival Day,” showcasing JJ Shiplett, Angel Forrest and The Last Waltz, a collection of musicians performing music from The Band.

“The good thing about us is we’re not consistent and I think that’s what attracts more people through the gate,” Kryzanowski proudly said, commenting on the musical selection.

For the family, more than 40 rides will be offered courtesy of West Coast Amusements.

Guests can also expect an I-Flip Acrobatic Show and Superdogs.

The advance kickoff breakfast runs August 20 at Exhibition Park, followed by the Whoop-Up Days parade on August 23.

Bob Balog has been named this year’s honorary parade marshal and festival ambassador.

Early midway tickets and gate tickets have remained the same price at $15 and will go on sale Monday June 6.

To alleviate gate congestion, tickets can be purchased at Gas King’s during the Week of Whoop-Up Days.
