LETHBRIDGE – Nearly a month after a 25-year old Lethbridge woman was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted while on her way to work, she has finally been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and to another ward at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

The family of the victim – who can no longer be identified – has been posting regular updates online, and when contacted by Lethbridge News Now they asked that we use those to help keep the community up to date on her condition.

“[She] continues to become a little more active each day and with occasional responses on command. She continues to track [her husband] with her eyes,” read a post on the Facebook page.

“[She] continues to remain stable and tolerates physio working with her. Her responses tend to be inconsistent still. She is continuing to make good eye contact with [her husband] and they are working on her responding on command. At this point, she may be beginning to respond but still a little hard to tell.”

They also made a point of acknowledging those who have helped her.

“Thank you to all the amazing nurses and doctors who have supported [her and her husband] during those first weeks. The care they gave has been truly amazing and so appreciated. We told them [she] can come back and thank them herself once she is all healed.

“The next set of doctors and nurses have already been so amazing and caring today. As we begin the next chapter of [her] journey, we come to you Lord expecting and waiting.”

The man accused of attacking her, 20-year old Denzel Dre Colton Bird, returns to court November 3 for a bail hearing.
