LETHBRIDGE – The bail hearing has been pushed back by a week for a 59-year old Lethbridge man, accused of breaking into a north side home and sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

The lawyer for Darral Gerard Courtoreille – who appeared via CCTV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre – stated that they had just received additional disclosure from the Crown this morning (Dec. 7), which is pertinent to the bail hearing, and asked for more time to prepare.

The Crown acknowledged the issue and consented to the adjournment, which was then granted by the judge to December 15.

Courtoreille was charged on November 7 with break and enter, sexual assault and sexual interference.

Lethbridge Police say that between 3 and 4 a.m. that same day, a man gained entry to a north side home through a basement door and found a 15-year old girl asleep in her bedroom. The man took steps to prevent her from screaming and alerting other members of her family, then sexually assaulted her.

Police arrived on scene at 5:14 a.m., cordoned off the area and found a man matching the suspect’s description.

This is the second time Courtoreille is facing these types of charges.

He was released from prison in January of 2004, after serving two years for sexual interference involving a minor. Then in May 2004, he pleaded guilty to another case of sexual interference of a minor, and in December of that year he was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.

After his release In December of 2005, police warned that he would be living in the city, and was designated a high risk offender after he refused to complete a rehabilitation program for sex offenders.
