LETHBRIDGE – A University of Lethbridge professor charged with sexual assault is heading to trial, after entering a plea of not guilty Thursday (Jan. 19) morning in Provincial Court.

An agent appearing for Calgary lawyer, Willie deWit — who is representing 37-year old Nicholas Hanson — entered the plea and had the trial set for July 6 and 7, 2017.

The accusation against Hanson came to light in November of 2015, when a 23-year old woman and former student reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by her professor in December of 2014.

An investigation found that on December 13, 2014, the student had been at an off-campus event and ended up alone in a room with a professor when the alleged incident occured.
