Mock disaster at Lethbridge College takes place on Saturday

Mar 25, 2017 | 8:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE –  If you’re driving around Lethbridge College between between around 8:30 am and 3 pm today (March 25) and notice emergency vehicles, blood, and chaos, don’t panic. It’s a mock disaster scenario the college is staging.

The two scenarios will run from 9 am until 10 am and then again from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Most of the action will be taking place near the 30th Avenue residences on the northeast side of campus.

Traffic around the campus may be diverted during the scenarios.

Nearly 100 students from the Criminal Justice – Policing, Emergency Medical Technician, Digital Communications and Media, Nursing and Health Care Aid programs will be taking part.

No one will know what type of disaster scenario they will be facing, and they will have to respond accordingly – in real time –  just like emergency responders and media do, on the job.

It’s the first year the Nursing and Health Care Aide students will be taking part, and the Media program will be using 360 – degree video technology to experiment with a new way of storytelling.

This is the 5th year that this type of event is taking place at the college. In past years, scenarios included an active shooter and a multi- vehicle accident.
