One woman dead after collision on Highway 23

PICTURE BUTTE – One woman is dead after an accident on Highway 23 near Township Road 104, between Nobleford and Monarch.

The accident occured around 1 pm yesterday (May 21)  afternoon.

Picture Butte RCMP say a pickup truck travelling southbound on Highway 23 crossed over the centre line and collided with a northbound semi-tractor trailer.

The female driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the semi was not hurt.

Traffic in the area was re-routed for several hours while emergency crews attended to the scene.

Police say next of kin have been notified, but the woman’s name will not be released.

Police are continuing their investigation and say all possible factors into the collision are being considered.
