Woman killed in long weekend accident was moving to Lethbridge, say RCMP

May 23, 2017 | 3:55 PM

PICTURE BUTTE – She was moving to Lethbridge to start a new chapter in her life.

RCMP aren’t releasing the woman’s name, but Sgt.Tom Howell confirms the woman killed in an horrific accident on Highway 23 just south of Nobleford, was 46-years old and from Claresholm.

The accident occured just before 1 pm Sunday, May 21st. A pickup truck heading southbound, crossed the centre line and collided with a north bound semi-tractor trailer.

Howell says road conditions – while moderately busy at the time because of the long weekend – were good.

“There doesn’t appear to be any outside influences that caused this collision, other than a pickup truck drifted over to the other side of the road and collided with a semi-trailer.”

At this point Howell says, it doesn’t appear as though alcohol or drugs, excessive speed, or passing unsafely were factors either.

Toxicology tests will be performed, but the results aren’t expected for several months.

A collision analyst is also still interviewing witnesses to the crash, and police have noted that they will be speaking with family and friends.

“It’s just a very unfortunate accident that occured,” Howell says.”Especially on a long weekend, and especially when it appears this woman was moving to another community and starting either a new job, or a new life in Lethbridge.”
