Hurricanes down Tigers 7-2

LETHBRIDGE  –  An exciting game at the Enmax Sunday night between two Highway-3 rivals but, the Hurricanes came out on top of the Tigers 7-2, after having control throughout the game.

Giorgio Estephan won the opening face-off and 19-seconds later Zane Franklin put the Canes on the scoreboard, assisted by Estephan and Dylan Cozens. Just over two minutes later, the Tigers’ Mark Rassel made a solo rush on the Canes’ net to tie the game 1-1.

Five minutes before the end of the first, Zane Franklin took advantage of a delayed penalty to plant his second goal of the game, assisted by Calen Addison and Tanner Nagel.

The end of the first period saw the Canes up 2-1and leading shots-on-goal 13-7.

The second frame also favored the Canes. Zane Franklin tallied a hat trick, and the game winner, near the six-minute mark, assisted by Dylan Cozens and Calen Addison.  Hurricane action continued, when just over three minutes later Dylan Cozens notched the insurance goal and his sixth of season.

 With four minutes remaining in the second period, the Tigers added a rebound goal. However, with just over two minutes remaining, Ryan Vandervlis grabbed control and planted his first goal of the season. The period ended with the Hurricanes leading 5-2 and up 27-20 in shots-on-goal.

 The final period saw the Canes move further out in front. Egor Zudilov charted his WHL point, assisted by Josh Tarzwell and Calen Addison, just past the period’s half way mark. With three-and-a-half minutes remaining, Brady Pouteau also put his first goal of the season on the scoreboard, to have the Canes up 7-2 by game end.

The match was slim on penalties – just four two-minute minors and three of those were against the Canes.  By game-end, the Tigers were ahead38-35 for shots-on-goal.

The game’s three stars went to Zane Franklin (3g), Dylan Cozens (1g 2a), and Calen Addison (3a).

The Hurricanes are now 5-5-0-0 and their next game is Wednesday (Oct 22) night at the Enmax against the Regina Pats.
