Lethbridge Hurricanes drop fifth straight game

LETHBRIDGE –  The Hurricanes were handed their fifth straight loss Saturday night 5-3 to the visiting Regina Pats, who collected their fifth win in a row.

The Pats opened the scoring at 3:29 of the first, with Kolby Morrisseau netting his 6th of the season from Josh Mahura and Jesse Gabrielle.

They added to their lead at 8:48 when Gabrielle scored on the power play with with Leschyshyn and Oksanen getting the helpers.

Zane Franklin and Jesse Gabrielle dropped their gloves at 9:53 in a spirited tilt, resulting in fighting majors for both players.

 The Pats widened the gap in the second period with goals from Nick Henry and Robbie Holmes, before the Canes responded with two of their own from Brad Morrison and Calen Addison.

The third period was scoreless until 17:13 when Brad Morrison drew the Canes to within one goal with Zane Franklin and Igor Merezhko getting the assists.

The Canes pulled goalie Reece Klassen for the extra attacker, but gave up an empty net goal to Sam Steel at 19:04 to seal the victory for the Pats.

The Hurricanes are now 32-30-6-0 overall on the season, after coming off a 4-1 loss Friday night as well to the Red Deer Rebels.  It was also awards night for the ‘Canes. The Hurricanes are on the road for their next two games. They take on the Edmonton Oil Kings Tuesday, March 13.
