A McDonald’s restaurant on the west side of Lethbridge has been closed in relation to COVID-19.

McDonald’s Canada confirmed that on Sunday, September 13, an employee at the 5 Mauretania Road W. restaurant had reported that they are presumed positive for the novel coronavirus.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party,” read the statement from the company.

“We are working to ensure we reopen safely, as we know our guests depend on their local McDonald’s and we are committed to doing our part to help our communities.”

Crew members who may have been in close contact with the individual have been asked to self-quarantine until further information is available.

The employee in question worked their last shift, an overnight time frame, on September 11-September 12 from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Guests who visited the restaurant on September 11 or 12 are asked to “take directions from the experts at Alberta Health Services” by visiting the AHS website.

“Maintaining the health and well-being of our crew and guests is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor and adapt measures, where necessary,” McDonald’s Canada stated.

“We continue to work with local health authorities to support our people and our guests, and we look forward to getting back to serving our community as soon as we can.”

The company did not specify when the restaurant at 5 Mauretania Road W. would reopen for business.
