“Big Backyard BioBlitz” – help to register local plants and animals

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is asking everyone to take part in a virtual event this weekend, aiming to document all kinds of plants, animals, insects, flowers, birds, trees, and more in your area.

The Big Backyard BioBlitz has people using the iNaturalist website or mobile app to upload photos of wildlife.

“Anyone can participate. It’s a great way for people of all ages to look at nature more closely and learn about the plant and animal species close to home,” said Dan Kraus, senior conservation biologist with Nature Conservancy of Canada. “Spending time outdoors is also beneficial for our physical and mental well-being. This is a great way to connect with nature and fellow nature lovers, while contributing to our collective knowledge on Canada’s wildlife.”

The NCC says events like this are key in informing conservation efforts in containing the spread of invasive species.
