Hurricanes Whip Saskatoon 10-3

SASKATOON:  The Lethbridge Hurricanes netted their third win in a row, and the second of a Saskatchewan road trip, with a 10-3 drubbing of the Saskatoon Blades on Friday night.

The Hurricanes had the Blades in tow 2-1 by the end of the first, thanks to a goal and an assist from Giorgio Estephan and a second goal from Andrew Nielsen.

The second period saw the Canes add four more goals, off the sticks of Brady Reagan, Ryan Vandervlis, Egor Babenko and Jordy Bellerive, to increase the lead to 6-2.

There were another four goals from the Canes in the third frame, courtesy of Brett Davis, Carter Folk and two from Egor Babenko, giving the left-winger his first WHL hat-trick. Stuart Skinner had the win for Lethbridge.

While the Blades out-shot the Canes 41 to 30, the two teams were fairly evenly matched in the penalty department.

The Hurricanes racked up 24 minutes for nine infractions, including two five-minute majors for fighting against Carter Folk and Jordy Bellerive. The Blades ran up 32 penalty minutes, also for nine infractions, including two five-minute majors and a ten minute misconduct.

The Hurricanes nabbed all three Stars for the night – Egor Babenko (1), Giorgio Estephan (2), Jordy Bellerive (3). 

The Canes remain tied for first in the Eastern Division with the Brandon Wheat Kings and move on to Prince Albert to play the Raiders on Saturday night.
