RED DEER –  One night after beating the Brandon Wheat Kings on home ice, the Hurricanes travelled north for a tilt against the Red Deer Rebels and added a 3-2 OT decision to their win column.

The Canes opened the scoring at the eight minute mark of the first frame with the 25th goal of the year from Giorgio Estephan.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first, Rebels’ Brandon Schuldhaus took a swipe at Canes’ Captain Tyler Wong, incurring the wrath of Wong team mate Giorgio Estephan.  The pair dropped the gloves and earned themselves a five minute major for fighting, with Estaphan adding a two minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Not long into the second, Canes’ Igor Merezhko and Rebel Evan Polei offered the crowd a second tilt of the night and another five minute major for fighting.

Two minutes after the fight, Jared Freadrich took advantage of a power play to put the Rebels on the scoreboard.

At the half way mark of the third, Rebel Brandon Hagel charged the net and tipped one in to put his team ahead but it was short lived.  Tyler Wong tied the score with two and a half minutes to go and the game moved into overtime.

It didn’t take the Canes long to wrap up the game.  Giorgio Estephan notched his second goal of the night, and the game winner, 46 seconds into OT.

The Hurricanes are 30-15-4-3 in the standings and are home to play Moose Jaw on Saturday night.
