AAA Midget Hurricanes fall 5-4 in overtime against Cantonniers de Magog at TELUS Cup

SUDBURY – The Cantonniers de Magog and Lethbridge Hurricanes exchanged the lead, never allowing the other to get more than one goal ahead, in a back-and-forth semifinal game on Saturday.

First and last on the board, it was the Cantonniers de Magog who skated away with the overtime win as they now look to come out on top over the Notre Dame Hounds in Sunday’s gold-medal game.

Hurricanes head coach Michael Dyck says obviously it wasn’t a good feeling to lose.

“We came to win. We’re proud to be here. We knew that coming into a competition like this there’d be lots of good teams here. [You had] two good teams that played well tonight, and it came down to a bounce. Obviously, the bounce didn’t go our way, so we’re going to have to rebound and get ready to play Toronto today,” Dyck said.

Dyck went on to say the tournament’s not over, and they have an opportunity to go home with a medal.

“That’s what we’re going to refocus on and get our energy on. It’s always been a resilient group, all year long. They’ll bounce back, and we’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”

Today’s medal games will see the Lethbridge Hurricanes facing the Toronto Young Nationals in the bronze-medal game at 12 p.m. mountain time. In the gold-medal and championship final, the Cantonniers de Magog meet the unbeaten Notre Dame Hounds at 5 p.m.
