Free fishing weekend in Alberta for all ages

Jul 7, 2018 | 7:11 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Anyone interested in fishing this weekend can do so for free today (July 7) and tomorrow (July 8).

It’s Free Fishing Weekend in Alberta, and that means those interested in learning about fishing, or who just want to head out to a lake or river to cast their lines don’t need a license to do it.

Wildlife officials however, say that all sport fishing regulations still apply, meaning rules like catch limits, and boundaries still apply.

Their advice:

  • Know the regulations for waters which you fish, including the limits for each fish species
  • Know how to identify fish to better follow the regulations
  • Handle fish with care to help them survive after they have been released back into the water

Anglers who wish to continue fishing after the free weekend will need to get a Wildlife Identification number and an Alberta Fishing license.
