Three-quarters of trucks fail roadside inspection

Aug 17, 2018 | 10:37 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Three-quarters of commercial vehicles failed their inspections during a three-day blitz this week.

Between Aug. 14-17, Lethbridge Police Service teamed up with Calgary Police, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Community Peace Officers, Alberta Sheriffs, and Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration to do roadside checks. A total of 179 commercial vehicles were inspected.

In addition to the 75 per cent failure rate, 56 per cent of the vehicles were removed from service immediately. The numbers were slightly higher compared to 2017.

Mechanical issues were the primary reason for failing inspection. They include defective or ineffective brakes, other equipment problems, and unsecured cargo.
