Lethbridge woman accused in home invasion granted bail a second time

LETHBRIDGE – Bail has been granted for a second time to a Lethbridge woman who is charged in connection with an alleged home invasion and assault on her 87-year-old grandfather.

Stacey Carlson’s original bail was revoked on Sept. 13, for an alleged breach of one of her release conditions. Following that decision from Judge Jerry LeGrandeur, they immediately proceeded into a bail hearing, after which the judge reserved his decision. Details of the hearing are covered by a publication ban.

Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, LeGrandeur revealed his ruling that the alleged breach was not enough to keep Carlson in custody and released her on $3,000 no cash bail, meaning she will only have to pay if she breaches those conditions.

Under Carlson’s new release conditions, she is prohibited from consuming or possessing alcohol or drugs unless prescribed by a medical professional, she must abide by a curfew, and she cannot attend the municipality of Taber – unless she is passing through on Highway 3 or for court appearances.

Her matter is set to return to Taber Provincial Court Oct. 2.

Carlson was arrested along with 22-year-old Heinrich Froese – who remains in custody after being denied bail – and both face charges of break/enter commit robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.

According to Taber Police, they were called to a home along the 5800 block of 52 Street in Taber around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11. They say an 87-year-old man found at the scene had been beaten and robbed of money, and that he was transported to the Taber hospital and later the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

While there is currently no update on the victim’s status, police did note through a social media post in July that they expected he would be released from hospital soon.
