Residential Fall Leaf Collection Program begins Oct. 10

Oct 9, 2018 | 2:03 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge will once again pick up yard leaves if requested – provided home owners follow a few rules.

The service will begin Wednesday, Oct. 10 and will run until Fri. Nov. 16. Residents can request a pick up for their fall leaves by calling 403-320-3111, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Staff will provide a collection date when the service is requested.

Before the leaves are picked up, they must be bagged in paper yard waste bags, which are available at local retail stores. They can’t be any heavier than 10 kg or 25 lbs each, however there is no limit to the number of bags that can be collected. Residents can only call twice for pickup from the same address.

Bags must be placed 1.5 metres from a homeowner’s waste collection cart. In areas where the garbage is picked up at the front of a property, the bags can be placed where their property meets the sidewalk.

Once collected, the leaves and bags will be composted together. If a resident does not want to use the service, bags can also be taken to any of the three City of Lethbridge Yard Waste Recycling sites, which will be open until Nov. 30.
