Lethbridge benchmarking study, Civic Common plan among presentations on council agenda

Oct 15, 2018 | 5:18 AM

LETHBRIDGE – A 62-page report, completed by Nichols Applied Management, was commissioned by the Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Alberta Association, in response to concerns that businesses are choosing to locate in Lethbridge County rather than within city limits because of relatively lower tax rates and other considerations.

The report was completed April 5, 2018, and highlights not only local tax rates for residents and businesses, but those in other Alberta cities, and similarly populated areas across Canada. It includes 27 indicators like employment rates, debt and reserves and fiscal capacities, expenses and revenue.

The Civic Common Master Plan will also be presented to council for consideration. The plan, which could include a civic plaza, market plaza, civic lane and green spaces, will also include several buildings not yet decided upon.

Other presentations and submissions include a request to adopts a “Lethbridge Play Charter” to encourage children and youth to get outside and exercise more to benefit their physical and mental health, requests for new leases, and the presentation of the terms of reference for a new Municipal Housing Strategy.
