MOOSE JAW — Less than 24 hours after a high-scoring, high-penalty winning game in Brandon, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were on the ice in Moose Jaw Saturday (Nov 24) for a rare afternoon game against the Warriors.

The Canes four game road trip would produce two wins – 3-1 in Saskatoon and 8-4 in Brandon, and two losses – 5-1 to Prince Albert and a 3-2 OT loss in Moose Jaw.

Both teams showed up for some hard play in the first period but, the only things produced were two penalties against the Canes’ Igor Merezhko and Jake Elmer of cross-checking and hooking.  The frame ended scoreless and the Warriors leading in shots 9-5.

The second period was a reprise of the first. Lots of action, particularly in the last minute of play, which produced a multi player dog pile on Moose Jaw goalie Adam Evanoff. When the puck slipped out from under the pile, the Canes’ Nolan Jones attempted to pass it around net. However, the goal was waved off because of goalie interference, without a penalty.

The first 40-minutes concluded, with the game still scoreless

The nets finally saw action in the third. Less than two minutes in, Warrior Tristan Langan put Moose Jaw on the Board and three minute later, Taylor Ross tallied his 13th of the season, tying the game 1-1.

As the game neared the halfway point in the period the Canes’ Keltie Jeri-Leon put one through the pipes, giving his team a 2-1 lead.

With five minutes left in the game, Moose Jaw’s Josh Brook added a power-play goal for a tied game.  The buzzer sounded with that 2-2 score and the teams prepared for overtime.

Brayden Tracey had the winner for Moose Jaw at 3:40 with the Warriors leading the game in shots-on-goal 36-27.

Lethbridge sits third in the Central Division at 11-8-3-2.  The Canes next game in Friday, Nov 30 at the Enmax.
