Nov 30, 2018 | 2:00 PM

BLOOD RESERVE – The Blood Tribe Police Service arrested and charged 54-year-old Ronnie Standing Alone with one count of sexual interference and one count of assault on Friday, Nov. 30.

Standing Alone is a bus driver with the Blood Tribe Bus Co-Op.

He’s been released with several conditions and is scheduled to appear in Cardston Provincial Court on Dec. 10.

No further information will be released at this time, as police are continuing to investigate the incident.

The Kainai Board of Education did send out a release, however, with some additional details.

KBE says the incident that Blood Tribe Police are investigating was reported to have occurred in the fall of 2018 involving students of KBE and an individual working for the Blood Tribe Bus Co-op.

The existing information is that accused acted alone and there are no other persons of interest.

Anyone who may have information about this matter or any other matter is asked to contact the Blood Tribe Police Service at 403-737-3800. The KBE is also encouraging anyone who may have additional knowledge of other potential incidents to contact police.

Now that criminal charges have been laid, KBE has taken some precautions including:

–    Contacting the Blood Tribe Bus Co-op, which assured the board of education that the accused is no longer transporting students and that other measures have been implemented to assure the safety of KBE students
–    KBE is also providing counselling for students, their parents and other parties directly affected. Any parents of students wishing to speak to their counsellors can contact Lauretta Many Bears at 403-737-3966
–    They’re working with stakeholders to retain an expert to review all procedures and then provide a report on how to ensure an incident of this nature doesn’t happen again
–    The expert report will be shared with Chief & Council and the Blood Tribe Bus Co-op, and KBE will then report to parents and other members of the public in due course

The board of education is continuing to help Blood Tribe Police as required, but in a fashion so as not to interfere with the ongoing criminal proceedings.
