Wind and heavy snowfall create hazards in opposite areas of the province

Dec 29, 2018 | 2:35 PM

LETHBRIDGE —  Weather extremes are causing different issues across the province.

In the south-west, the Pincher Creek fire department is dealing with two large grass fires.  One of the fires is along Highway-22, while the other is just north of Cowley.

Wind is impacting the fire, as sustained speeds have been recorded at 100-kmph along Highway-22 at Lundbreck Station north of the Highway-3 junction, with gusts up to 167-kmph. The wind speed has produced blowing gravel.  Avoid all unnecessary travel on Highway-22 due to blowing debris

Also, Northern, Western and Central Alberta areas are experiencing heavy snowfall and extremely poor road conditions.  RCMP are advising everyone to re-consider travel at this time.
