TABER, AB – A structure fire is under investigation after M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Service went to work Sunday night.

According to a Facebook post from Station 4 – M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Service – Taber/Barnwell, crews responded to a residential structure fire at around 10:00 p.m. Station 4 and Station 7 were dispatched to the scene on Highway 36 north of Township Road 10-4.

The service said that Sierra 4-1, Engine 4-2, Engine 7-3, Rescue 4-4, Rescue 7-4 and Wildland 4-6 responded.

A second alarm was issued for Station 5, who responded with Engine 5-3. Two water tankers and a steam truck were called to the scene to assist.

Flames were found in the basement and first floor of the building. An attack team from Engine 4-2 battled the flames, along with two and three man/woman attack teams, who entered the structure in turns until the fire was fully extinguished.

The service said that the fight was “complicated by -33 Celsius temperatures”.

“Overall an impressive display of teamwork by all of the 22 firefighters who were on scene. The residential structure – although badly damaged internally remains standing and intact,” the service said on Facebook.

Crews also thanked good samaritans who saw the flames and made the call to 911.

Units left the scene by 2:30 a.m. and at 4:00 a.m., reported that they were prepared for the next call.

The fire remains under investigation.
