Influenza Cases Rising in Alberta
LETHBRIDGE – Alberta Health Services are now seeing an increase in the number of influenza cases in the province.
In the last week alone, there has been a jump in hospitalization cases from 30 to 84, and there has also been five deaths so far caused by influenza.
Two of the deaths were in the Calgary zone, with the other three in the Edmonton area. Four of the people who died were not immunized, while the fifth was a child who only had one of the two doses required for children under nine years of age who are being immunized for the first time this season.
Senior Medical Officer of Health Dr. Gerry Predy says we are still in the early stages of this outbreak and it’s not too late for people to get the vaccine.
